Hello! My name is Ivy Garrett and I’m currently a senior who is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Public Health. The main core values that I hold dearest to my heart include adventure, creativity, hopefulness, fitness, and organization. I believe that in order to remain adventurous and creative, we must put our health at the top of our list. Without the drive for adventure, we miss out on a vital way to gain perspective and grounding in our lives. To me, adventure is the key to finding inspiration and purpose in our existence. To take the ideas that we gain as a result of feeling inspired and confidently implement them, we have to be organized in how we articulate and convey them to an audience. We must also be hopeful and confident that they will produce the desired result, even if the outcome is unknown.
As a public health student, it is not my purpose to settle with the status quo. I strongly disagree with the phrase “it's always been this way”. My core values can be seen in all of the leadership identities I’ve held in college. These include being a scholar, innovator, and a team player. These qualities are displayed throughout the most valuable positions I’ve held in the past four years such as the advocacy work I’ve done for the Boys & Girls Club, the Hope Heart Institute, and my involvement with Volunteer Services and the various philanthropic causes in the Greek community. I am a leader whose primary intent is to serve and empower others. I view leading a team as a collaborative effort that requires a “we” not a “me” mindset.
Upon graduation, I will strive to help others locally and globally by consistently generating new solutions to improve social issues. In the future, my ultimate goal is to be a leader in the realm of advocacy work and health research based practices with the intent of driving progression in our populations health. I believe that my passion for mindful living will allow me to excel in life's endeavors in and outside of the work force by staying a curious, energetic, and positive leader.
